Nguyen v. Sacramento Regional Transit District
PSB attorney Spencer Lucas obtained a $7.5 million settlement on behalf of a 67-year- old woman who was hit by a city bus, resulting in an above-the-knee amputation. On Nov. 1, 2011, Lang Nguyen disembarked from a Sacramento Regional Transit District bus and walked approximately nine feet into a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the same bus while it was making a right turn. The bus ran over Ms. Nguyen’s right foot, ankle, and knee, coming to a stop with the tire directly on top of her leg. While she was being extricated from underneath the bus, her lower right leg had to be amputated.
Defense counsel contended that Ms. Nguyen entered the intersection while the “don’t walk” sign was on and failed to look to her left to see if the bus was proceeding through the intersection. The defense also contended that Ms. Nguyen’s life span was limited. Michael H. Silvers, Esq. was co-counsel in the case.
