Research Shows How Teen Drivers Can Be Endangered By Distraction

A new report from USA Today that highlights the continued danger posed by distracted driving was prompted by recent research that delves into the psychology of teens who have just obtained their driver’s licenses.  That research, which hails from the Transportation Institute of Virginia Tech, showed that teens tend to overestimate their abilities in the days following their licensing, and this confidence could lead them to attempt to multitask while they’re at the wheel, thus increasing their susceptibility to a crash.  After delving into this study, the report also offers tips to parents hoping to help their kids avoid distraction at the wheel.  Open communication and serving as a driving role model are both key.
