The Proper Precautions Can Minimize The Possibility Of A Fall

Posted on February 6, 2014

When you’re a kid, it’s easy to bounce back from taking a tumble.  But as we age, those falls that didn’t used to deter us can cause some fairly serious damage.  Although you’re not always going to be able to have control over the environments you walk through, there are certain precautions you can take in your own life to reduce the risk of an injury.  A new report highlights some of those precautions, which were provided by the CDC.

You want to strive to maintain good health by way of proper exercise.  Nothing says that you have to stop working out just because you’ve reached a certain age.  Even walking or engaging in regular stretching, though not necessarily over-taxing, can work wonders for your health and help you heed off problems that may otherwise result from a fall.

You also should make sure that you’re able to properly see the environment.  Go in for regular vision checks to make sure that contacts and glasses are up to date and that you’ll be able to properly identify any hazards when they appear.  And speaking of prescriptions, be careful if you’re provided with anything that has imbalance or dizziness as a potential side effect.

Finally, though these things will help you outside your home, it’s important to take precautions within your residence.  Keep pathways clear and make sure visibility is adequate throughout.
