SafeShower and SafeSpout Water Filters Recalled Over Infection Fears

Posted on January 8, 2014

SafeShower and SafeSpout water filtration systems are being recalled by Nephros due to concerns that the products can malfunction, undercutting the ability of the items to reduce the threat of infection.  These non-medical devices, which can be placed directly onto a shower or a sink, are in danger of having their filter or the component that holds it in place break.  If this leads the user to come into contact with a bacterial contaminant, he or she could suffer a severe illness that could even lead to a fatality.  Already, there have been reports of two incidents, one of which led to the death of a user.  Owners of the products, which were available from July 2011 to this past October, are being asked to cease usage at once and to report adversity to a medical professional and the FDA.
