Running In The Cold In A Manner That Won’t Leave You Injured

If you’re going to be running outside in the cold weather, it’s vital that you take the proper precautions to protect yourself from harm.  There are a number of factors that could contribute to a serious accident, and you don’t want such a situation to befall you.  Therefore, please consider the safety advice on hand from a new report out of Chicago.

Given the time of the year, visibility can easily be obscured.  If you’re outdoors in the snow, or if grime has accumulated on a vehicle’s windshield, drivers may not be able to properly identify you.  This is especially dangerous at night and as the sun is going down, creating a glare that further hinders visibility.

You want to make yourself noticeable.  Don’t run at night or when the sun is making its descent, and wear bright colors and some type of reflective material so that there can be no question as to your presence.

Also give thought to wearing multiple layers if you’re going to be running in the cold.  Mittens and a hat are a great idea, especially at the start of the run before you can get your body temperature up.  When you feel yourself start to lose power, make sure to call it a day so that you’re not overexerting yourself.  In cold or snowy conditions, it’s even more important to stay well within your abilities.
