New Rule Seeks to Reduce Foodborne Illness In California Restaurants

Posted on January 8, 2014

At the beginning of this year, a rule came into effect that sought to reduce instances of foodborne illness among restaurant patrons in the state of California.  The next six months will see food operators from around the state being eased into the rule, which requires all persons preparing and handling ready-to-eat food products to use utensils or gloves rather than just bare hands.  The new rule seeks to all but ensure that human skin never makes contact with products that persons are about to eat.  This is in addition to workers already being required to wash their hands at regular intervals, including when they’ve gone to the bathroom, touched raw foods, or coughed and sneezed.
