Fire Hazard Prompts BMW To Recall 50,184 Motorcycles

Posted on January 6, 2014

R-Model, HP2, S 1000, and K-Model motorcycles of model years ranging between 2005 and 2012 are being recalled by BMW of North America.  50,184 vehicles could be affected by an issue wherein the auxiliary and the primary fuel pump flanges are in danger of cracking.  If this cracking becomes sufficient, fuel could emanate from that component.  Should some type of open flame be in the vicinity of the leaked fuel, the worry is that a fire could break out and compromise persons on and around the motorcycles.  Owners will receive an alert from BMW once the recall starts (which should be at some point in February).  A free reinforcement or outright replacement of the fuel pump can then be obtained from dealers.
