Proposed Texting Ban Moves Forward In New Mexico Once Again

Posted on January 29, 2014

Another state is inching closer to the passage of a potential texting and driving ban.  Such a measure has proved elusive thus far in New Mexico, but progress is currently being made on the matter.  The measure as it currently stands would outlaw the usage of a phone or a similar to device to send or receive a text, and the recipients of a ticket would be expected to pay a $25 penalty.  The ban has just received the unanimous approval of the state’s Senate Public Affairs Committee, and the next step will find the bill going in front of the Judiciary Committee before heading to the Senate.  There’s still a long and winding road to go for the bill, as similar measures have stalled in years past.
