Injury Risk Spurs Recall of Nearly 2,000 Remote Controlled Helicopters

Posted on January 28, 2014

Three types of remote controlled helicopters are being recalled by the Champaign, Illinois-based Horizon Hobby due to a possible injury hazard that could be posed to users and those beneath the items while in flight.  Nearly 2,000 such toys are being recalled from around the country.  The recall affects Blade 500 3D RTF, Blade 500 3D BNF, and Blade 500 X BNF helicopters.  A separation of the grip that keeps the tail rotor attached to the hub can take place, leading that component to fall off.  The helicopter could then crash and persons below it could be struck.  Thankfully, there have yet to be instances of this reported, and these items should no longer be used so that safety can be further assured.  Instead, new tail grips can be obtained from the company.
