Winter Hazards You Must Protect Your Pets From

Posted on December 11, 2013

If you have pets, then you’ll want to make sure that they’re kept safe as cold weather descends on the area.  To do this, you might consider some of the safety advice on hand from the Maryland chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  First, realize that pets should not be left out to the elements for any extended period of time.  They either need to be brought into the house or set up with a cozy shelter that will keep them warm and dry.  When it’s snowy out and you take your dog for a walk, make sure to keep him or her on a leash so that the animal doesn’t get loose in the dangerous environment.  Make sure that a dog’s coat stays sufficiently long for warmth, and dry them off when they come in so that any salt or antifreeze that may have accumulated on their legs is wiped off.
