Bakersfield Seeks To Make Improvements To Local Bike Safety

Posted on December 17, 2013

A recent editorial from the staff of the Bakersfield California points out the admirable efforts that the city has been making to improve bicycle safety in that city.  They explain that a member of the City Council is hard at work coming up with a Bicycle Transportation Plan that could be used to improve the existing infrastructure in place for those who choose a bicycle to commute.  One of the big roadblocks to their efforts is reportedly a concern among much of the cycling population that, even with bike lanes in place, they’ll still be required to ride alongside motor vehicles. A full one third of persons reportedly said they would not use bike lanes if it means they could be endangered by nearby automobiles.  The editorial outlines the need for this plan and says that the issues that need to be addressed will indeed be overcome in time.
