2014 Brings Changes To LATCH Car Seat Recommendations

Posted on December 4, 2013

Changes are constantly being made to ensure the safety of children being transported in a vehicle, and one fairly substantial change is set to come online at the beginning of next year.  At that time, car safety officials will start to recommend that children should only use the LATCH system if they and their car seat come in under 65 pounds.  Previously, only the weight of the child was taken into consideration.  That means that parents whose children are on the cusp should think about weighing the seat itself to see if the LATCH system would be appropriate.  If the 65 pound mark is breached, then the seat belts should be used with the seat instead.  Otherwise, there is no guarantee that the LATCH anchors would hold up in the event of an accident.
