Undeclared Milk Risk Leads to Recall of Hazelnuts and Almonds

Posted on December 12, 2013

Two types of hazelnuts and almonds are being recalled by the Cheektowaga, New York-based Health Matters America because of the potential for an undeclared allergen hazard.  The recall affects Dark Chocolate Almonds and Dark Chocolate Almonds with Chili and Dark Chocolate Hazelnuts and Dark Chocolate Hazelnuts with Chili, all under the Organic Traditions brand.  These items, which were available in California and a number of other states, could have milk without the label declaring the presence of such.  Thus, persons allergic to that substance could find themselves enduring a serious reaction.  No such incidents have come to pass at this time, and to ensure that continues, owners of the eight ounce and 3.5 ounce products who are worried about the allergy threat are being asked to get a refund from the retailer they bought the items from.
