E. Coli Outbreak Leads to Recall of Ready-To-Eat Wraps and Salads

181,620 pounds of ready-to-eat wraps and salads are being recalled by the Richmond, California-based Atherstone Foods and Glass Onion Catering because of a possible E. coli contamination threat. One food expert interviewed at this link notes that there may be an ingredient found in these salads that’s responsible for the E. coli contamination.  The Atherstone recall pertains to items sold at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Walgreens in Northern California (and, in one instance, Nevada), while the additional ham and chicken products affected were distributed to a handful of states.

Each of the affected products was made from September 23 to November 6.  At this point, officials are looking into the correlation between these products and 26 illnesses that have occurred in three different states, with most of the breakout focused on California.  Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported in conjunction with this recall, but around a quarter of the people affected have had to check in to a hospital.
