Nearly 1,000 Toyota Tacomas Recalled Over Spare Tire Safety Issue

Posted on November 19, 2013

Toyota Tacomas of the 2012 and 2013 model years are being recalled by Southeast Toyota Distributors due to a safety issue that could arise in conjunction with the Maverick Alloy Wheels on the automobiles.  The spare tire on these vehicles uses a different type of lug not (not available at purchase) than the four main wheels already in place.  Therefore, the spare could suffer excessive damage if acting as a replacement for one of the other wheels.  This damage could manifest in a loosened wheel that heightens the potential crash threat.  At some point this month, the recall should start, with owners of the nearly 1,000 vehicles receiving notification from Toyota.  Not only can a warning label then be obtained, but appropriate lug nuts will also be provided.
