A new report takes a look at a trend wherein hidden cameras are increasingly being placed in nursing homes (either by concerned families or by government officials) to identify signs of abuse. Three states (Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico) have legislative language that distinctly allows the usage of surveillance within their rooms, and a handful of other states have considered such measures. Some have voiced concerns about privacy, not just for the workers at care centers, but for the elderly family members who may not know they’re being monitored. Still, families and prosecutors have not given up on ensuring their loved ones’ safety. In Ohio, the office of the attorney general also deployed cameras in various facilities, an effort that has led him to seek the closure of one nursing home.
