Chico Police Department Provides Cycling Safety Tips to Citizens

Posted on November 12, 2013

Following a string of recent bicycle accidents, the police department of Chico, California is attempting to alert cyclists to some of the precautions they can take in order to avoid a crash.  As it gets dark outside earlier and earlier, visibility becomes increasingly important, and that’s where reflectors and a bike light come in.  Reflectors need to go on the back, the front, and the sides by way of the tires.  Cyclists are also encouraged to ride on the right side of the road, as doing the opposite puts an individual in danger of being struck by turning cars.  Distractions should be minimized, including cellphone conversations and even listening to music.  Finally, cyclists must realize that the same set of statutes governing vehicles would apply to them as well.
