Health Officials Try To Identify Source of E. Coli in Humboldt County

Posted on November 7, 2013

The California Department of Public Health and the Department of Health and Human Services are attempting to determine what caused four people in Humboldt County to become exposed to E. coli and subsequently become ill.  The cases occurred between August and this past October, and upon testing, officials were able to deduce thanks to genetic markers that the illness had to have come from one singular source.  Interviews were carried out with patients to determine any commonalities, but efforts have fallen short thus far.  Healthcare professionals in the area are being asked to obtain samples from any individuals whose symptoms are consistent with an E. coli-based illness.
