Governor Signs Law Boosting Bike and Pedestrian Safety in California

Posted on October 2, 2013

The Governor of California has signed a measure that seeks to keep the state’s Safe Routes to School program going for the foreseeable future.  $129 million is being earmarked for various transportation safety issues, with a particular emphasis on getting children more interested in biking and walking to and from school.  To bolster this desire among adults and children alike, the money will be used for such things as the installation of additional bicycle lanes and sidewalks that can keep children from having to travel in the street as they head to class.  The hope is that having one large account to draw from will be far more beneficial than simply drawing from a smattering of funding programs.
