Research Shows Children Can Severely Distract Parents At The Wheel
A new study from the Monash University Accident Research Centre delves into the impact that having children in the car can have on a parent, with the results suggesting that a kid can actually prove more distracting than many other hazards. 12 families were analyzed for the study, and if a parent with a child between one and eight drives for 16 minutes, it was revealed that their eyes are taken away from the road for an average of more than three minutes. Three quarters of the time, the parent turned to look at their child or watched their actions in the mirror. Some parents ended up talking to their kids during the trip, while there were some instances of the parent turning to play with the child or help them with something.
