Bill Seeks To Regulate Pankration Competitions In California

Posted on September 9, 2013

Concerned about the safety threat posed to child participants, a Concord, California-based Assemblywoman has put forth a bill that would establish stricter regulations for any competition featuring pankration.  She and other safety advocates worry that children engaging in this type of martial arts competition are put at risk of injury without some type of rule in place to govern the sport.  The measure seeks to bring the competition under the regulatory umbrella of California’s athletic commission.  If that were allowed, further rules could be set forth by that governing body.  For instance, future competitions may require the presence of a doctor or some type of insurance coverage.
