New York Texting Zones Offer Alternative To Distracted Driving

Posted on

New York has come up with a creative way to prevent distracted driving while still allowing drivers to send texts if they absolutely must get into contact with someone else.  Earlier this week, the Governor explained that the state would be adopting so-called texting zones along highways in New York.  If a driver must read or send a text while driving down one of these roads, they can pull into the designated zone, carry out their communication while parked there, and then get back on the road.  Signs will be used to alert drivers to the availability of these areas, which are basically rest stops and other infrastructure already positioned along the roads.  The state will consider the possibility of creating additional texting zones in the future.
