6,600 Disc Brake Calipers Recalled By Shimano Over Crash Risk

Posted on September 19, 2013

The Irvine, California-based Shimano American Corporation has announced the recall of disc brake calipers that can be used with a number of cyclocross and road bikes.  The recall affects 6,600 BR-R515 and BR-CX75 disc brake calipers available from bicycle stores around the country between February 2012 and this past May.  The calipers themselves are in danger of failing, and when that happens, the individual onboard the bike could be involved in a crash.  No such incidents have come to the fore at this time, but in order to protect the public, avoid a personal injury lawsuit and to ensure that continues, owners are being asked to cease riding any bikes utilizing these brakes.  The calipers can be replaced by bringing the affected units in to a dealer.
