California Limo Fire Safety Bill Passed By State Assembly

Posted on September 11, 2013

A bill seeking to boost the safety of smaller limousines has just passed an important vote, drawing one step closer to reality.  Yesterday, the Assembly gave the measure its approval, which will now shuttle the bill to the Senate for another vote.  A desire for the law sprung up following a limo blaze on the San Mateo-Hayward bridge that cost five people onboard their lives. The new law, if passed, would require drivers to keep passengers informed of the limo’s safety features, not unlike how flight crews go over the same prior to an airplane taking off.  Additional emergency exits would need to be installed as well.
