CHP Seeks To Promote Pedestrian and Bike Safety on Bay Bridge

Posted on September 6, 2013

Now that the Bay Bridge is open, it’s important for those who hope to take advantage of the East Span bike and pedestrian route do what they can to ensure safety.  A website focuses on the measures being taken by authorities to promote safety and also explains the ways that commuters can do their part to ensure their own wellbeing.  Persons on bikes are advised to keep their speed below 15 miles per hour and to give pedestrians the right of way when encountered.  For those who want to use roller skates or a skateboard to get across, think again:  such gear is prohibited on the new path.  To make sure that the rules are being obeyed, the California Highway Patrol plans to use officers on bikes to monitor the path.
