Sterile Items Recalled By Specialty Compounding Over Safety Hazard

Posted on August 12, 2013

The threat of a contamination among compounded products has arisen once again, this time in association with sterile items from the Cedar Park, Texas-based Specialty Compounding.  A recall was issued on all sterile products from the company after 15 persons who received calcium gluconate from incurred a bacterial infection.  The items were made available across the country starting this past May 9.  An investigation is ongoing into the potential contamination, and if it’s determined that sterilization has indeed been compromised, the worry is that numerous patients could be exposed to a potential infection that could claim their lives.  No sterile items from Specialty Compounding should be given to patients and adversity should be reported to a doctor at once.
