With California dealing with wildfires that have already claimed upwards of 200,000 acres of land, Cal Fire wants to make sure that the Labor Day weekend doesn’t pose additional threats to the land and the citizens that reside on it. To that end, the Merced, Mariposa, and Madera branch of the agency is calling upon residents of California to do their part to boost safety. Campers and visitors to state parks are advised to get in touch with officials to learn about closures and emergency restrictions in place. Burn bans should be respected in order to prevent additional fires. Even drivers can help out by ensuring exhaust system adequacy and tire pressure levels, as failings in these regards could prompt sparks and a blaze. Tow chains need to be carefully watched so that they don’t create sparks.
