Ensuring Safe Transport Of Kids By Babysitters

Posted on August 19, 2013

With school headed back into session, many parents may rely on nannies or babysitters to pick up or drop off their children.  But if this is the case, then there are certain steps that need to be taken to ensure safety.  A new report explains how with advice from Edmunds.com.

The main thing that parents need to do is verify the safety of the babysitter himself or herself.  A sitter should be willing to let you see their driving record so that you can rest assured your children are in good hands.

Instances of citations and arrests related to intoxicated driving should prompt an immediate change in plans, while speeding and recklessness in the past should at the very least give you pause and cause you to have a serious conversation with the babysitter.  When you’ve viewed the record, place a few calls to the sitter’s references to see what their experiences were like with that person.

It’s also perfectly acceptable to pick the vehicle and monitor the sitter’s driving behavior.  There are apps and hardware which will allow you to keep track of a vehicle’s progress, and if you’re more comfortable having the sitter drive a car you provide, then make sure they’re only driving this car.

Finally, if your sitter is transporting young kids that require a safety seat, make sure they understand proper usage procedures.  You might even put the seat in yourself so that you know it’s as safe as it can be.
