Herring Filets Recalled By Gold Star Due to Listeria Concerns

Posted on July 29, 2013

The threat of Listeria monocytogenes has prompted the recall of Herring Filets under the Rybacka Wies brand by the Brooklyn, New York-based Gold Star Smoke Fish Corporation.  Each 500 gram product will have October 31 as its expiration date and was available across the country.  The Listeria threat was revealed via sample analysis by the Department of Agriculture of New York.  No one has reported becoming ill in association with the product at this time, and to ensure that continues, owners ought to refrain from consumption, instead bringing the item back to the store it was bought from.  A Listeria-based illness can cause fever, headaches, nausea, and in certain susceptible demographics, a more serious infection that can even prove fatal.
