CHP Says “Drone” Signs In Bay Area Are Fraudulent

Posted on July 22, 2013

Bay Area drivers concerned that drones are monitoring their speeds should fret not.  According to the California Highway Patrol, recently erected signs along Highway 37 and other environs proclaiming “Speed Monitored By Drones” are fraudulent.  The CHP neither uses drones as a part of their enforcement efforts nor were they responsible for installing the signage.  Although the signs look just like real roadsigns and were installed in a professional manner, they are not sanctioned and are in fact in violation of California law.  One officer worried that the fake signs could pose a distraction to drivers.  The CHP also assures vehicle operators that the attendant picture showing a drone firing a weapon does not depict an act that the CHP would take part in to reduce speeding.
