Northern California Truck Inspection Site Seeks to Bolster Safety

The California Highway Patrol is touting the installation of a new truck inspection facility in Northern California that they say could greatly improve safety along the heavily trafficked Interstate 80.  Located in the vicinity of Vacaville, the eastbound scales are purported to be far more suited to the current driving environment than the previous scales, which have been around for 55 years.  The inspection site is far larger than the previous site, and the CHP acknowledges that the technology can act as a standard for other sites around the country.  At the moment, the I-80 corridor sees 125,000 trucks pass by a year, prompting the CHP to carry out 23,000 inspections.  But with traffic expected to expand twofold over the next few decades, the need for an updated inspection site manifested.
