795,000 Kenmore Dehumidifiers Recalled Over Fire Threat

Posted on July 17, 2013

795,000 Kenmore Dehumidifiers are being recalled by Sears and LG Electronics.  The units were originally recalled back in August of last year, but additional instances of adversity associated with these products have prompted a re-issuance of the announcement.  The 35, 50, and 70 pint units are in danger of overheating, a condition that could lead to melting and even a fire.  $300,000 in property damage was reportedly incurred among three fires, and one incident has apparently led a consumer to sustain a severe foot burn.  Owners are being asked to unplug the unit at once.  Sears should be contacted for those looking for a gift card that can go toward the purchase of a new product.  The items were available from Kmart and Sears between 2003 and 2009.
