Taking The Proper Safety Precautions While In The Air

Posted on July 15, 2013

When most people board a plane, they tend to tune out the safety directives provided by airline personnel.  But the recent Asiana Airlines crash has prompted a new report focused on heeding such important tips, as exercising the proper precautions in the event of a plane crash can mean the difference between life and death.

Employees onboard are going over safety instructions for a reason, and it’s important to listen to them and do what they say in the event of an emergency situation.  They’re saying and doing these things at the behest of the Federal Aviation Administration, which has deemed such instructions necessary.

Thus, pay attention when personnel are pointing out the locations of emergency exits.  You might even take note of how many rows are between you and such an exit so that you can get out should visibility be reduced.

As tempting as it might be, you shouldn’t reach upwards for your bags if a prompt exit is necessary.  You also will want to be wearing adequate footwear should such an emergency take place.  Heels could puncture the evacuation slide and thus are typically not even allowed.  And although sandals are admissible, they could leave your feet exposed to injury from debris during a crash.

Finally, wear your seatbelt.  If a crash landing is necessitated, you’ll want to have a tightly secured seatbelt placed around your hips in order to reduce the injury threat.
