CHP Targets Drunk Drivers Over Independence Day Weekend

Posted on July 3, 2013

AAA Northern California figures that 4.7 million people from around the state will travel for the Fourth of July holiday, and if you fall into that category, then you should be aware that the California Highway Patrol will have no tolerance for drunk drivers over the next five days.  The agency is increasing patrols, casting a particular eye toward driving maneuvers that could signify a drunk driver is at the wheel.  Last year, a similar enforcement effort led to 479 arrests.  The CHP encourages all groups to have a designated driver who can get people home safely.  And with long distance travel common during this time of the year, citizens should also give themselves ample time to reach their destinations so that they don’t have to speed or push themselves past the point of exhaustion.
