Situational Awareness A Key Factor To Driving Safety

Posted on June 25, 2013

A new report out of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin offers some advanced safety tips that drivers might exercise whenever they’re out on the road.  The next time you drive, keep these things in mind so that you can always encourage safety.

First, get in the habit of starting out a little bit early whenever you take a trip.  Far too many accidents happen because a driver was running late and thus decided to ignore basic road safety rules.  Instead, give yourself ample time so that you can adhere to traffic law and make alterations to your route if needed.

On time or no, you should avoid aggressive maneuvers that can compromise your wellbeing.  Many drivers will dart around other vehicles rather than slow accordingly.  But there could be a reason another automobile is going slow or has come to a complete stop.  Kids may be attempting to cross the street, their small stature keeping them hidden behind a leading vehicle, or a traffic jam may have suddenly sprung up.

Exercise restraint and take in not just your surroundings, but potential obstacles further down the line.  If vehicles way up ahead are activating their brakes, there’s a good chance you might need to do so as well.  And if oncoming vehicles also seem to be slowing down, whatever obstacle they’re coming to a halt for might soon impact your travel lane.
