A new article once again looks at the worrying trend wherein recalled used vehicles are being sold by private sellers and dealers due to the simple fact that there isn’t a law prohibiting such a sale. The author points to the recent experiences of a mother in Oklahoma who purchased an unbeknownst-to-her recalled Dodge Durango, only to have smoke immediately begin to filter into the cabin, causing her to pull over. Federal lawmakers are in the midst of trying to get a bill passed that would change this disappointing loophole in recall law. In the meantime, persons in the market for a used car are advised to do their research and visit the database of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to verify there’s no open recall on a vehicle.
