Santa Monica Officials Praise Bike Safety Improvements

Posted on

Officials with the city of Santa Monica, California are largely pleased with the area’s recent efforts to improve the safety of roads for cyclists.  A Bike Action Plan put together in 2010 sought to lay groundwork for the installation of bike lanes and other safety measures throughout the city, and the plan seems to be paying dividends.  Cyclists have reportedly been out on the road in greater numbers, with estimates putting the increase at as much as 30%.  Bike safety advocates also stress the importance of training through such programs as “Adult Learn to Ride” and “ Confident City Cycling.”  These classes instruct riders on proper biking techniques, such as always staying off the sidewalk and heeding all traffic signage that would be applicable to motor vehicles.
