761 Aerial Devices Recalled By Altec Due to Overheating Threat

Posted on June 10, 2013

Six types of aerial devices of the 2010 through 2012 model years are being recalled by Altec because of a potential fire threat.  An estimated 761 vehicles with a 19,500 pound gross vehicle weight rating and a Ford F550 chassis are potentially impacted by the recall, which was issued once it was discovered that damage can occur in a certain battery cable.  This can cause a short to ground of the component, which leads to the unit auxiliary functions, and thus overheating can result.  There’s a chance that this could then prompt a blaze.  Notification should have started toward the end of April, and owners are being advised to bring the aerial devices in to a dealer to obtain a free cable rerouting.
