Texting and Driving Ban Fails in Texas

Posted on May 28, 2013

Texting and driving won’t be illegal any time soon in the state of Texas.  Although many proponents thought this would be the year that a ban on the activity obtained the signature of the Governor, the measure has stalled in the state’s Senate Committee on Transportation.  The head of that committee, who previously voted against a similarly themed bill in 2011, decided not to even let the matter go up for a vote.  This was despite the House passing the bill earlier this year.  Although the cosponsor of the proposed law said he would try again next time, he expressed disappointment that lawmakers weren’t even given the chance to vote on the bill, which he said would have ultimately passed and brought in front of the Governor.
