Cellphone Driving Ban Draws Nearer to Passage in Illinois

A ban on cellphone usage at the wheel has drawn one step closer in the state of Illinois.  Yesterday, a Senate Committee approved the measure, setting the stage for a debate in front of the full legislative body.  The state’s House approved the ban back in March.  If the handheld cellphone driving ban becomes law, it would encompass at the state level the types of measures that have been passed by 76 cities throughout Illinois.  That widespread support for the bill was one reason why it was introduced in the first place.  One representative whose husband was seriously injured in a distracted driving-related collision provided testimony in support of the measure.
