Utah Teens Officially Barred From Using Cellphones While Driving
Beginning today, teenagers in Utah have a financial incentive not to engage in cellphone usage behind the wheels of their automobiles. That’s because the state has enacted a law that makes it illegal for teens under the age of 18 to use a phone while driving. Exempt from the law are instances in which a teen is calling the authorities because they’re in need of emergency assistance or they’re calling their parents for some reason or another. A citation will run the offender $25, but points will not be assessed on their record. The hope is that teenagers and parents alike will recognize the importance of this law and put their phones down.
