Vitae Bird Foods Recalled By Chatsworth Company Over Salmonella Risk

Posted on April 22, 2013

Numerous types of bird foods under the Vitae brand have been recalled by the Chatsworth, California-based Merit Bird Company because of the potential presence of Salmonella.  This threat affects not only birds, but also those individuals who handle the products.  Persons who sustain a Salmonella-based infection could find themselves facing such circumstances as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and more.  No such illnesses have been reported at this time.  The recall derives from a Specialty Commodities-issued recall of parsley, an ingredient that can be found within the aforementioned bird food.  Each of the products, which was only available in pet stores across Southern California, should be brought back to the store.
