Although the entire month is dedicated to rooting out distracted driving across the state of California, some local law enforcement agencies are concentrating their resources on cracking down during one particular day or week. Sausalito Police, for instance, will be commemorating Distracted Driving Awareness Month with an enforcement operation scheduled to run throughout the day tomorrow. Drivers can expect no leniency with law enforcement officials who catch them texting or talking on a cellphone; instead, citations worth $159 will be issued to first time offenders, and subsequent violations will entail a $279 fine. Drivers are being advised to refrain from cellphone usage not just tomorrow, but at all times behind the wheel.
