$ 8.5 Million Recovered for Family of Father Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Posted on April 26, 2013

Brian Panish, Spencer Lucas, and Juan J. Dominguez recovered an $8,500,000 settlement for the family of a 50 year old man who was killed in a motorcycle collision on February 17, 2012.

The decedent was operating his 2011 BMW motorcycle when he was slowing for a pedestrian at the intersection of Florence Avenue and Bissell Street in Huntington Park, California. A truck driver following the decedent failed to slow his vehicle and struck the motorcycle from behind causing the rider to fall to the ground suffering severe head trauma.

The defense contended that the decedent did not have his helmet strapped, and that he would have only suffered minor injuries if he had been properly wearing his helmet. Plaintiff’s counsel aggressively pursued the case, winning multiple motions in court and successfully forced one defense firm to withdraw from the case.

The decedent was survived by his wife of 20 years, four adult children, and two step children.

Panish and Lucas were able to obtain a substantial recovery for all members of the grieving family in less than seven months of litigation.
