The City Commission of Alamogordo, New Mexico will meet tonight to debate the approval of a ban on texting and driving within the city. As originally proposed, the ordinance would have outlawed all cellphone usage at the wheel, but the commission approved a motion that limited that proposal’s reach to texting only. The move comes even as New Mexico as a whole failed to secure the votes necessary to achieve a statewide texting ban earlier in 2013. Alamogordo’s proposed bill has gone through several iterations before settling into its current scope, and much debate has sprung up around the enforceability of such a measure.
