California Senate Approves Hands-Free Teen Driver Texting Ban
Yesterday found lawmakers in California giving their approval to a bill that would make even hands-free texting at the wheel illegal among teenage drivers. The state Senate gave the bill the go-ahead by a 35 to 3 margin, and the measure will now move to the Assembly to be considered for final passage. Last year, a bill was passed that allowed such means of texting, even among teens, according to the California Association of Highway Patrolmen. This new measure, though, would limit teens’ potential exposure to distractions that could hinder safe driving. One Senator pointed to the bill’s ability to cut down on teens’ proclivity to engage in distracting habits, a habit that’s attributable to their overtly social nature.
