204,169 CR-V, Acura RDX, and Odyssey Vehicles Recalled By Honda

Hundreds of thousands of vehicles are being recalled because of an issue that only makes itself known in areas of the country where temperatures reach freezing.  If you live in such a climate, even if such conditions only crop up a couple times a year, and you own one of these vehicles, then it’s imperative that you get the issue corrected at once.

Honda has announced the recall, which affects Acura RDX vehicles of the 2013 model year and Odyssey and CR-V automobiles of the 2012 and 2013 model years.  An estimated 204,169 vehicles are encompassed by the scope of the recall.

Once the temperature reaches the aforementioned freezing point, slowdown can occur in the brake-shift interlock blocking mechanism.  This brings the vehicles out of compliance with the Federal Safety Standard regarding Rollaway Protection, as the vehicles could be moved away from Park without the driver pressing down on the brakes.  Said vehicle can thus roll away and endanger persons and objects in its path.

On May 13, the recall is supposed to begin, at which point owners can expect to hear from Honda about the potential defect.  Vehicle owners can then drop their vehicle by a dealer to receive the necessary repairs, which shall consist of the installation of a replacement component that shouldn’t suffer from the issue.
