Sans South Dakota Action, Mitchell Passes Its Own Texting Ban

Posted on April 16, 2013

South Dakota recently failed to acquire the votes necessary to secure the passage of a texting and driving ban, but that hasn’t dissuaded the city of Mitchell from pursuing their own ban on the habit.  Yesterday, the City Council elected to pass a texting ban, adding Mitchell to a list of likeminded cities such as Sioux Falls, Huron, and Watertown.  The Mayor of the city expressed pleasure with the City Council’s decision, and one of the Council members said that the time was right for the act.  Council members were relatively quiet at the meeting, as the measure had been debated heavily in the weeks and months leading up to passage.
