Santa Maria Event Raises Distracted Driving Awareness

Posted on April 15, 2013

This coming Sunday, the city of Santa Maria will hold an anti-distracted driving event called “Eric’s Run.”  Named after a Berkeley student who was killed while aboard his bicycle along the side of a road, the event will act as a fundraiser for an organization whose goal it is to curb distracted driving.  The young man’s parents started the foundation after the tragic event, and they hope that events like this can get drivers to pay more attention to the road and less to their devices.  The event coincides with this month’s distinction as National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
