Florida Surgeon Replacing Failed Hip Implants on Regular Basis

Posted on April 12, 2013

A new article showcases the toll that an overwhelming number of hip revision surgeries is having on the very surgeons conducting the operations.  In Boynton Beach, Florida, one orthopedic surgeon explains that he has been working to correct hip failures in his patients on a nearly weekly basis for the past year.  Over the course of a couple years, he explains that he implanted 400 Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II modular hip implants because he thought it was the best device for the job.  But of those, a full quarter of patients have come in for a revision surgery over the past year, and he believes that another 100 will require revision surgery before all is said and done.  The removal of the recalled products isn’t just hard on surgeons, obviously, but patients as well, who are forced to deal with decreased mobility and the repercussions of a more difficult revision operation.
